Tips & Tricks: Interview Follow Up

Following Up After Your PayPal Interview: A Few Friendly Tips

We’ve invited our recruiters to share their top application and interview tips to help candidates feel more informed and confident throughout the hiring process.

Meet Nat G., based in Sydney, Australia, who has been part of PayPal Australia since 2017. Passionate about creating a positive candidate experience and supporting candidates throughout their journey, Nat shares her expertise on an important part of the interview process: how and when to follow up after an interview.

You made it through the interview — congratulations! Whether you spoke with one interviewer or several, walked out of a conference room or logged off a video call, there's one question almost everyone asks next: what now?

The good news is that following up doesn't have to be complicated or nerve-wracking. A little thoughtfulness goes a long way. Here are a few friendly recommendations to help you navigate the days and weeks after your PayPal interview.

"Remember to breathe and have fun: the follow-up process is just an extension of the conversation you already started. Keep it genuine, keep it brief, and trust the impression you've already made."

A quick note: your recruiter will stay in touch with you throughout the process, so there's no obligation to reach out on your own. That said, if you'd like to be proactive, here are a few tips for doing it well.

Timing matters: There's no need to overthink when to reach out. A simple rhythm works well for most candidates.

  • Within 24 hours — send a short thank-you note to each person you spoke with, while the conversation is still fresh for both of you.
  • Around day 5–7 — if you weren't given a timeline, a brief, polite check-in is perfectly reasonable.
  • Around day 10–14 — if you still haven't heard back, one final, warm follow-up is appropriate before shifting your focus elsewhere.

Say thank you, thoughtfully: A genuine thank-you note is one of the simplest ways to leave a lasting impression.

  • Thank each interviewer individually, by name, for the time they spent with you.
  • Mention something specific you enjoyed discussing — it shows you were engaged and listening.
  • Let them know you're still excited about the opportunity and the team.
  • Keep it brief and warm — three to five genuine sentences is plenty.

Sample thank-you note:

Hi [Name], thank you for taking the time to speak with me today about the [Job Title] role. I really enjoyed learning more about [specific topic discussed], and it reinforced my excitement about joining PayPal's [team name] team. Please let me know if there's anything further I can provide you with. I look forward to hearing about next steps.

A few gentle reminders: A handful of small habits can make your follow-up land even better.

  • There's no need to rush — a thoughtful note matters more than a fast one.
  • A short, personal message tends to land better than one sent to everyone at once.
  • It's usually best to save salary and benefits questions for a later stage in the process.
  • One gentle check-in is plenty — there's no need to follow up more than once a week.
  • A warm, professional tone always comes across well, even over email.

If you haven't heard back: it's easy to read into silence, but hiring timelines shift for all kinds of reasons that have nothing to do with you. If it's been a couple of weeks without a response, one warm final check-in is perfectly appropriate — after that, feel free to shift your focus forward. If the timing isn't right this time, it doesn't mean it won't be right the next.

Remember to breathe and have fun: the follow-up process is just an extension of the conversation you already started. Keep it genuine, keep it brief, and trust the impression you've already made.

We're glad you're exploring a future with PayPal, and we're rooting for you every step of the way.
