Erica B.
Facilities Manager, Real Estate & Facilities (RE&F) team
This Black History Month, Amplify—PayPal’s resource group for Black employees— recognized the stories and contributions of Black people who continue to shape culture and business.
Meet Erica B. She’s currently a Facilities Manager in PayPal’s Real Estate & Facilities (RE&F) team. Starting as a front desk coordinator in 2012 when PayPal was part of eBay, she worked her way up, managing three New York sites before relocating to Austin, Texas, after PayPal became an independent company in 2015.
Her work ethic was shaped early on by her family’s history. “I grew up watching my family of sharecroppers work hard in the tobacco fields of North Carolina so that I didn’t have to,” she shared. “They wanted me to have choices—to soar.”
Now as a Facilities Manager, her team works to create a seamless and positive work experience from the moment employees arrive until they head home. “Think of the person who runs your household—that would be me, but for business,” she said.
Navigating a “male-dominated industry” like facilities management has come with challenges, particularly around work-life balance. “My days were constantly overlapping with work responsibilities and family commitments,” she explained. It wasn’t until she set boundaries and began advocating for herself that things changed. “I had to learn to use my voice! When I did, I realized I wasn’t just speaking for myself, but for other team members as well.”
For over 12 years, PayPal has provided opportunities for Erica to grow within her field. Amplify, PayPal’s ERG, has also played a crucial role in her journey. “Amplify has had my back—offering a safe space for tough conversations, tools to support my growth, and a strong community where Black employees can embrace their authentic selves.”
Erica’s career journey reflects her commitment to growth— both personally and professionally. Through every challenge, she says she will continue pushing forward—not just for herself, but for those who come after her.
