Meet Deepak R., Senior Product Manager at PayPal, who has been with the company for just over five years and has spent the past year creating an impact on the Venmo team.

Deepak began his career in data science, focusing on mitigating fraud risk and building a strong foundation in analytics. His curiosity led him to join PayPal’s Technology Leadership Program, where he explored a variety of roles through brief rotations—including corporate strategy and product management.

It was through these experiences that Deepak discovered a passion for product management, “a field that perfectly blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution.” Since making the pivot over two years ago, he’s embraced the challenges and rewards of product leadership and continues to thrive in a role that fuels his passion and purpose every day.

What’s a challenge you’ve faced while working at PayPal, and how did you overcome it?

“One of the challenges of working in PayPal is a challenge that's quite common to most large organizations - navigating cross-functional collaboration across multiple teams and organizations. This can sometimes make it difficult to execute projects and deliver them on time.

What I’ve found effective is having a clear and compelling "why" behind the project—articulating its purpose as clearly and concisely as possible. Over-communicating this "why" to all teams involved ensures alignment and helps resolve most challenges.”

What's something you love about working on your team?

“One of my favorite things about the team I work with is how deeply passionate and invested everyone is in the product. Many of my teammates have been with Venmo for years and have played pivotal roles in shaping its core functionalities. It’s inspiring to see the level of thought and care that goes into every product, design, and engineering decision—always with the user experience and the value we’re providing to customers at the forefront.”

Deepak continues to grow as a product manager, blending strategy with execution. His journey from data science to product leadership shows a clear vision and drive to explore what matters most to our customers.
