Omar B.
Software Engineering Intern
Throughout August, we’re celebrating the contributions of interns and recent graduates across PayPal. Meet Omar B., a Software Engineer Intern on the Merchant Onboarding & Servicing team at Braintree.
In his role, Omar is helping to streamline the onboarding process for new merchants while enhancing self-service options for existing ones. “Our team empowers merchants to efficiently update their business and contact details through user-friendly interfaces,” Omar shared. “Right now, I’m focused on building validation systems that help maintain data integrity when update scripts run on merchant accounts.”
We asked Omar to reflect on his internship journey with PayPal and share advice for incoming students:
Have you felt supported or mentored during your time here? If so, how?
“The support at PayPal has been incredible from the very beginning, starting with how smoothly the university team handled the interview process. I’m fortunate to work closely with two dedicated mentors who regularly check in and guide me through my project. My manager also offers consistent support and encouragement. What stands out the most is how collaborative the culture is. Engineers across the team are always willing to help and remind me that no question is too small. It’s created an environment where I feel empowered to learn and grow.”
What has been your favorite experience working for PayPal so far?
“Impact Day was truly memorable. Seeing the entire PayPal community come together to give back was inspiring. At the Austin site, we partnered with Code2College to assemble supply bags for college-bound students. Watching everyone from interns to CTO Srini Venkatesan working side by side for this cause showed PayPal's genuine commitment to community impact and reinforced why I’m proud to be part of this organization.”
“My biggest advice is to persevere and stay authentic throughout the application process.”
What advice would you give students or recent grads who want to work here?
“My biggest advice is to persevere and stay authentic throughout the application process. Before applying to PayPal, I wrestled with self-doubt about whether I was qualified enough for such a big company. Push through those doubts. PayPal values potential and enthusiasm just as much as experience and being genuine about your passion for technology and learning will set you apart.”
